Security Patrols in Western Province Park
On the 1st July 2017, the ECID extended it’s services into Western Province Park.
There is now a 24hr vehicle and guard based in the area, with back from any one of the vehicles based in Epping 2.
Armco Barriers & Wooden Bollards
The ECID wish to extend our thanks to Council for the speedy response and assistance to the problem of vehicles mounting the pavement on the corner of Evans Avenue, driving on the pavement past the SBH intersection before returning to the road.
This was a huge danger to pedestrians and this also destroyed the grass that had managed to survive. Council installed 2 Armco barriers as well as 2 wooden bollards.
The Green Initiative Award Ceremony
The Green Initiative was formed by SM Mart Waste Management which was founded by Siyanda Dinginto with a purpose of creating jobs and minimizing waste going to the landfill and they are affiliated to Wasteplan and the Epping City Improvement District. They also run recycling programmes with schools in the township.
SM Mart’s plan is to collect recyclable materials from companies in Epping which are managed by the CID.
At no cost to the companies, the materials are then transported to Wasteplan facilities which are also based in Epping.
Recyclables are collected on a weekly/monthly basis depending on the amount, collections are outsourced to smaller business, thereby generating job creation and giving back.
The Epping CID is working with different organisations and charities around Epping namely the Langa Baptist Church, Church of Nazarene in Bonteheuwel, who both run soup kitchens as well as handing out food parcels and the Cart Horse Protection Association in Epping.
SM Mart together with the ECID, have managed to get companies to participate in the initiative namely Green Cross, Medi Post Pharmacy Illumina Lighting and Prima Toy just to name a few.
A portion of the monies generated goes to the ECID who in turn support those organisations named above.
SM Mart then award the companies with a Green Certificate which is recognised by Wasteplan and the City of Cape Town.

The ECID will be extending their boundary to include Western Province Park as from 1 July 2017. An initial clean up was done in WPP during the past 2 weeks and the results have been encouraging.
Feeding Scheme for May & June 2017
The ECID handed out the following food items to the Church of the Nazarene in Bonteheuwel and the Langa Baptist Church; 4 x 750g coffee, 2400 tea bags, 4 kg peanut butter, 4 kg jam, 48 cans each of pilchards and baked beans, 20 kg of lentils, 20 kg dry soup mix and 40 kg samp kindly donated by Giant Hyper and 300kg gravity beans donated by Pioneer Foods. Accepting on behalf of the Church of the Nazarene is Reverend Quinton Williams & S. Josias (top left) and for Langa Baptist Church is Viwe Zono & Lubabalo Ntsundushe. (top right).

Law Enforcement Satellite Office at Informal Market
The City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement agency is taking action against the illegal squatters along Viking Way. The Law Enforcement satellite station has been in effect as of 1 February 2017.
On Monday 06 February, Law Enforcement’s management have taken their stance a step further by placing a semi-permanent structure on the ground, this being in the form of a container, which will be used as an Operations Centre. The idea is to create more awareness amongst the illegal squatters, showing that the City is taking this matter seriously. In the time that the satellite station has been placed alongside the squatters, Law Enforcement has shut down 2 illegal shebeen that has been operating there for many years. Social development are also busy doing assessments.
The City, along with Law Enforcement and the ECID will continue to monitor the area and keep companies updated on any future developments.
