GlaxoSmithKline Cape Town Factory Wins GSK Global Energy Trophy

Cape Town,Epping Industria-GSK Cape Town factory was awarded the GSK-Global Manufacturing Supply (GMS) Energy Trophy which is an annually contested trophy awarded to the site with the best energy management programme.
This prestigious award has put Cape Town on the GSK Energy map and marks the first time that the trophy has been held on the African continent. Previous Energy Trophy title holders were Irvine and Barnard Castle sites in the UK and Sonepat in India.GSK employs approximately 110000 people, of which 26000 are employed by 74 factories in 31 countries that report into the central Energy management data base. All of the sites were screened by GSK’s Global Energy Managemnet Team and Cape Town was selected as one of 16 sites shortlisted to submit a presentation. The top six sites were:Nabha (India), Ware (UK), Imaichi (Japan), Eveux/NDB (France), Biopharms (USA) and Cape Town (South Africa).The energy trophy is awared to the site that achieves the best combined result against a set of criteria including:1. Performance-Project portfolio, behavioural programmes, use of technology, innovation, process    improvements, 2013+plans , renewable energy projects.2. Sharing-Case studies, sharing with other sites, CCERP (Climate Change & Energy Reduction Project) team engagement, budget setting and reporting, Energy Kaizen support etc.3. Site Circumstances-Specific challenges and constraints that the site has successfully mitigated that could have impacted energy reduction ativity and the ability to deliver it.
